Client Summary: Specialty Chemical
Company
BEM provided turnkey design, installation and start-up of
an air pollution control system to treat volatile organic
compound (VOC) emissions at a paint manufacturing facility
in Jersey City, NJ. The selection of an air pollution control
technology was based upon the specific air contaminants, process
flow rate, current regulatory guidelines, and the close proximity
of residential housing.
The
multi-phase project included conceptual engineering, design,
construction and start-up. In selecting an air pollution control
technology, BEM reviewed several bids for technical criteria
and cost effectiveness. The zeolite adsorption and regeneration
system selected was successfully presented to NJDEP as a cutting-edge
alternative to carbon adsorption.
BEM’s role during construction comprised the procurement
of services from vendors and subcontractors, coordination
of all construction management activities and performance
monitoring on behalf of the client.
The start-up phase included the establishment of comprehensive
procedures to ensure that the facility would be brought on-line
in a safe, orderly and well-planned manner. BEM’s approach
established a prioritized action plan based on a logical sequence
of system approval and turnover, validation, production test
runs and initial operating plans.
In addition to the turnkey air pollution control project,
BEM worked with the facility on a manufacturing master plan
that coordinated the future expansion of the facility’s
production with the construction of the air pollution control
system and associated services.
