Representative Client Summaries
Bechtel-SNJLRTS
As part of a $500-million dollar project, BEM was retained
by Bechtel Infrastructure Corporation (Bechtel) to provide
full environmental support services for the 34.5-mile-long
New Jersey Transit Southern New Jersey Light Rail Transit
System (SNJLRTS) project, extending from Camden to Trenton,
New Jersey. Bechtel is the Design-Build-Operation-Maintenance
(DBOM) contractor for New Jersey Transit and is responsible
for all aspects of construction on the project. BEM
is a valuable member of the Bechtel project team, overseeing
and implementing a variety of remedial actions on the
project, including soil and groundwater characterization,
on-site reuse of contaminated soil, off-site beneficial
reuse, underground storage tank (UST) closures, and
decontamination/demolition and hazardous waste management
activities.
BEM’s primary project objectives are:
- Timely and cost-effective characterization and management of various types of environmental media to evaluate potential contamination and unanticipated site conditions;
- Enforcement of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) approved Soil Reuse Plan;
- Implementation of UST closures, asbestos and lead-based paint abatements, and
- Continuous regulatory compliance coordination.
To accomplish these objectives, BEM is successfully
implementing the following scope of services:
- Rapid-turnaround environmental characterization and hazardous material/waste management;
- Innovative soil reuse remedial actions and environmental construction management support;
- Cost-effective UST, asbestos, and lead paint remedial actions, and
- Environmental database management system (EDBMS) tracking of soil movement quantities, linked to a Geographic Information System (GIS), and reported to the NJDEP on a quarterly basis.
