Risk Assessment / Management
Risk Management, as it pertains to remedial actions and
their associated functions, is the ability to properly balance
a remedial methodology’s proven effectiveness, costs,
timeliness, complexity, and regulatory and community acceptance.
Many factors must be taken into account when deciding the
optimal remedial approach and how to best implement it.
BEM is experienced inimplementing risk-based corrective
actions. We design remedial investigations and collect
the specific data needed to address risk issues. We
then combine the results of the risk assessment with
target risk levels that are appropriate for the expected
land use to derive reasonable, health-protective target
cleanup levels. BEM’s skill in applying innovative
risk approaches and record of obtaining acceptance to
these approaches is exceptional.
BEM works closely with federal and state agencies, local
communities and other stakeholders to evaluate various remedial
technologies and risk-based clean-up criteria to design site-specific
strategies. For example, BEM has worked with the USEPA to
derive ecological and human health risk-based cleanup standards.
We fully understand how risk-based arguments can reduce cleanup
costs and be used in determining the best future use of property
holdings.
Using our risk assessment, modeling and negotiating skills,
BEM helps potentially responsible parties and other property
owners pursue risk-based strategies that allow property redevelopment
efforts to proceed.
